عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ : تَزَوَّجَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ خُزَيْمَةَ وَهِيَ أُمُّ الْمَسَاكِينِ ، سُمِّيَتْ بِذَلِكَ لِكَثْرَةِ إِطْعَامِهَا الْمَسَاكِينَ ، وَهِيَ مِنْ بَنِي [هِلَالِ بْنِ ]عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ ، وَتُوُفِّيَتْ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - حَيٌّ [لَمْ تَلْبَثْ مَعَهُ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا] . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Al-Zuhri says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Zaynab bint Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with her), who is Umm al-Masakin (Mother of the Poor). She was given this name because she used to feed the poor abundantly. She belonged to Banu Hilal bin Amir bin Sa'sa'ah. She passed away during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and she had stayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for only a short time.
