وَعَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى مَعَ عُمَرَ عَلَى زَيْنَبَ ، وَكَانَتْ أَوَّلَ نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَوْتًا ، وَكَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهَا قَبْرَهَا ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : مَنْ يُدْخِلُهَا قَبْرَهَا ؟ فَقُلْنَ : مَنْ كَانَ يَرَاهَا فِي حَيَاتِهَا فَلْيُدْخِلْهَا قَبْرَهَا . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Imam al-Sha'bi narrates that he offered the funeral prayer of Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) behind Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). She was the first of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to pass away. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wished to lower Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) into the grave himself. He sent a message to the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asking who may lower her into the grave. The wives said: The one who could see her during her lifetime should lower her into the grave.
