وَعَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ - وَكَانَ شَابًّا - : وَفَدْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَوَجَدُونِي أَفْضَلَهُمْ أَخْذًا لِلْقُرْآنِ ، وَقَدْ فَضَلْتُهُمْ بِسُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " قَدْ أَمَّرْتُكَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِكَ وَأَنْتَ أَصْغَرُهُمْ ، وَلَا تَمَسَّ الْقُرْآنَ إِلَّا وَأَنْتَ طَاهِرٌ " .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ فِي جُمْلَةِ حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ فِيمَا تَجِبُ فِيهِ الزَّكَاةُ ، وَفِيهِ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، ضَعَّفَهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ ، وَقَالَ الْبُخَارِيُّ : ثِقَةٌ مُقَارِبُ الْحَدِيثِ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ فِي جُمْلَةِ حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ فِيمَا تَجِبُ فِيهِ الزَّكَاةُ ، وَفِيهِ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، ضَعَّفَهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ ، وَقَالَ الْبُخَارِيُّ : ثِقَةٌ مُقَارِبُ الْحَدِيثِ .
Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) related that when he was a young man, he came with a delegation to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He says: My companions found that I was the most excellent of them all in retaining the Qur'an, and I also had excellence over them in (having memorised) Surah al-Baqarah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I appoint you as the leader of your companions, even though you are the youngest of them in age. Touch the Qur'an only when you are pure." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this as part of a long hadith about the cases in which zakah is obligatory; its chain contains a narrator, Isma'il bin Rafi', whom Yahya bin Ma'in and Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared "da'if" (weak). Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) says: He is thiqah (trustworthy), but muqarib al-hadith (his hadith is passable).
