Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in my house, and he said: "Let no one come in to me." Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I kept waiting, and meanwhile Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) came in. I heard the sound of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) weeping. I peeped in and saw that Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was in his lap, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was passing his hand over his forehead and weeping. I said: "By Allah! I did not notice him coming in." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told me: "Jibril was with us in the house. He asked: 'Do you love him?' I replied: 'As far as this world is concerned, yes!' Jibril said: 'Your Ummah will kill him in a land whose name is Karbala.'" Then Jibril took some of its earth and showed it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was surrounded at the place where he was martyred, he asked: "What is the name of this place?" The people said: "Karbala." He said: "Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth; this is a place of karb (distress) and bala' (affliction)."
