عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَأَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَا : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَا تَقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ وَأَنْتَ جُنُبٌ " . قُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ : إِنَّهُ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَانَ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ لَيْسَ الْجَنَابَةَ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِي إِسْنَادِهِمَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ النَّخَعِيُّ ، وَقَدْ أَجْمَعُوا عَلَى ضَعْفِهِ .

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not recite the Qur'an while you are in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah)." I asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the Qur'an in every state, except when in janabah?
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it; the chains of both contain a narrator, Abu Malik al-Nakha'i, on whose weakness the hadith scholars are agreed.
