Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1495

Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about a person in a state of janabah: may he sleep (without bathing)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He should perform ablution like the ablution for prayer."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Qays bin al-Rabi', whom Shu'bah and Sufyan declared thiqah (trustworthy) and others declared da'if (weak); however, lying has not been attributed to him.
