Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every prophet who came was given seven companions who were nujaba' (noble ones) and wuzara' (ministers), and I have been given fourteen such companions: Hamzah, Ja'far, Ali, Hasan, Husayn, Abu Bakr, Umar, Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Abu Dharr, al-Miqdad, Hudhayfah, Ammar, Salman and Bilal." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In al-Atraf this narration is attributed to some narrations of al-Tirmidhi, but I did not find it in my copy. Al-Bazzar and Ahmad recorded it, and he added the words: "Abdullah bin Mas'ud". Al-Tabarani recorded it in abridged form, and in some of his routes he mentioned Sayyiduna Mus'ab bin Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him) among these persons. Its chain contains a narrator, Kathir al-Nawwa', whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) while the majority declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
