Sayyiduna Malik bin Abdullah al-Ghafiqi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate some food, then he said: "Screen me so that I may bathe." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Were you in a state of janabah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes!" The narrator says: I told Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about this. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to him: "This man says that you ate while in a state of janabah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! When I have performed ablution, I eat and drink, but I do not recite (the Qur'an) and I do not pray until I have bathed."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness, and it also contains a narrator who is not known.
