وَعَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ : أَسْلَمَ الزُّبَيْرُ ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ سِتَّ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ، وَلَمْ يَتَخَلَّفْ عَنْ غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَقُتِلَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ بِضْعٍ وَسِتِّينَ سَنَةً ، وَهُوَ مِنَ الْبَصْرَةِ عَلَى نَحْوِ بَرِيدٍ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَهُوَ مُرْسَلٌ صَحِيحٌ .

Hisham bin Urwah narrates: Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam at the age of sixteen, and he never stayed behind from any military expedition in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took part. When he passed away he was over sixty years old, and he was at a distance of about one barid from Basrah.
