وَعَنْ مُطِيعِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - يَقُولُ : وَاللَّهِ لَوْ عَهِدْتُ عَهْدًا ، أَوْ تَرَكْتُ تَرِكَةً ، لَكَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ أَنْ أَجْعَلَهَا إِلَى الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ ؛ فَإِنَّهُ رُكْنٌ مِنْ أَرْكَانِ الدِّينِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .

Muti' bin al-Aswad narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "By Allah! If I were to make a covenant or leave behind an estate, the most beloved thing to me would be to appoint Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) as its guardian, for he is one of the pillars of the religion."
