In one narration it is reported from Ali bin Abi Talhah, a freed slave of Banu Umayyah, who narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) went for Hajj, and Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj also went for Hajj with him; he was among the people who reviled Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) the most. He passed by the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) was sitting there. After this the narrator mentioned the hadith as before, except that he added these words: "Whoever fabricates a lie has certainly failed."
Al-Tabarani recorded this narration with two chains. One of them contains a narrator, Ali bin Abi Talhah, a freed slave of Banu Umayyah, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); the other chain is da'if (weak).
