عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ : أَنَّ عَلِيًّا قَالَ : لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَإِنِّي لَأَرْبِطُ الْحَجَرُ عَلَى بَطْنِي مِنَ الْجُوعِ ، وَإِنَّ صَدَقَةَ مَالِي لَتَبْلُغُ أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفَ دِينَارٍ .
Muhammad bin Ka'b al-Qurazi narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I remember myself being with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while I had tied a stone to my stomach because of severe hunger; and now the charity (sadaqah) from my wealth reaches forty thousand dinars.
