Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 14682

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is the chief of the Arabs? The people submitted: You are, O Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am the chief of the children of Adam, and Ali is the chief of the Arabs.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Khaqan bin Abdullah bin al-Ahtam, whom Abu Dawud declared da'if (weak).
