Dawud bin Yazid al-Awdi reports from his father: Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the mosque and the people gathered around him. A young man stood up, came to him and said: I ask you, by Allah, did you hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever's mawla I am, Ali too is his mawla. O Allah, love whoever loves him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him"? The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I testify that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever's mawla I am, Ali too is his mawla. O Allah, love whoever loves him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, al-Bazzar recorded something similar, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. One of al-Bazzar's two chains contains a narrator who is not named, and the rest of the narrators in the other chain are thiqat (trustworthy). The chain of Abu Ya'la contains Dawud bin Yazid, who is da'if (weak).
