Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 14616

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave instructions about the trees, so the ground beneath them was swept and water was sprinkled there. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us. By Allah, whatever is to happen until the Hour is established, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told us about it. Then he said: O people, who is closer to you than your own selves? We said: Allah and His Messenger are closer to us than our own selves. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever's mawla I am, this one too is his mawla. By this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of his hand, raised it out, and said: "O Allah, love whoever loves him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Al-Tirmidhi recorded only this part of the narration: "Whoever's mawla I am, Ali too is his mawla."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Habib bin Khallad al-Ansari, whom I do not know. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). Al-Bazzar recorded it in a more complete form; its chain contains Maymun Abu Abdullah al-Basri, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) while a group declared him da'if (weak).
