Sayyiduna Amr Dhi Murr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) both narrate: On the day of Ghadir Khumm the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon and said: "Whoever's mawla I am, Ali too is his mawla. O Allah, love whoever loves him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him; help whoever helps him, and support whoever supports him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Al-Tirmidhi recorded the hadith of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam, which contains only these words: "Whoever's mawla I am, Ali too is his mawla."
Al-Tabarani and Ahmad recorded it from Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) alone in abridged form, but at its beginning they recorded these words: We camped with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a valley called Khumm. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order for the prayer, and he offered the prayer early. The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon, and at that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was shaded by a tree from the sun. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you not know (the narrator is unsure whether the words were:) do you not bear witness that I am closer to every believer than his own self? The people replied: Yes, indeed. After that the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. Al-Bazzar also recorded this narration. Its chain contains Maymun Abu Abdullah al-Basri, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) while a group declared him da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
