With the same chain it is reported: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed the people in a sermon, and the people interrupted his sermon. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I became weak on the day Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred." Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) set out a parable for them: There are three bulls and a lion, and they gather in one place; one bull is black, one is red and one is white. Whenever the lion intends to attack any one of them, all three gather together against the lion and keep it from coming near them. Then the lion says to the black and the red bull: "In this territory of ours, this white bull is bringing disgrace upon us; give me the chance and I will eat it, for my colour and yours are alike, and the colour of you two is like mine." Then the lion attacks it and kills it. Some time after killing it, he says to the black bull: "This red bull is bringing disgrace and shame upon us in this territory of ours; give me the chance to eat it, for my colour is like your colour and your colour is like my colour." Then he attacks the second bull and kills it too. Then he says to the black bull: "Now I will eat you." The black bull says: "Give me the chance to call out something loudly three times." Then the bull says: "Beware! I was eaten on the very day the white bull was eaten! Beware! I was eaten on the very day the white bull was eaten! Beware! I was eaten on the very day the white bull was eaten!" (Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) "Beware! I became weak on the day Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with the same chain as that of the preceding narration.
