Umayr Rudi states: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed the people in a sermon and said: "O people, if no one were to enter Hell except the one who martyred Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), I would not enter Hell (that is, I am not among those who martyred him); and if no one were to enter Paradise except the one who martyred Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), I would not enter it (that is, I am not among the killers of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him))." The narrator states: When he came down from the pulpit, it was said to him: "You have said something because of which your companions may leave you." So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed them in a sermon and said: "O people! Beware! Allah Almighty caused Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to be martyred, and I am with him." Muhammad bin Sirin states: This is a particular Qurashi way of speaking which has two aspects. Al-Tabarani says: It is as though Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) meant that Allah Almighty caused Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to be killed, and I too have been killed along with him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Mujalid, whom most scholars declared da'if (weak), and a narrator, Umayr, whom I do not know. The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
