Abu al-Aswad states: I heard Talq bin Khushaf say: "We went to Madinah as a delegation to look into why Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred. When we arrived there, we passed by someone from the family of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), someone from the family of Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him), and one of the Mothers of the Believers; but I went to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). I greeted her and she returned the greeting. She asked: 'Who are you?' I said: 'I am a man from the people of Basrah.' She asked: 'From which of the people of Basrah?' I replied: 'From the tribe of Bakr bin Wa'il.' She asked: 'From which of the tribe of Bakr bin Wa'il?' I said: 'From Banu Qays bin Tha'labah.' She said: 'From the family of so-and-so?' I said to her: 'O Mother of the Believers! Why was Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), the Commander of the Believers, martyred?' She said: 'By Allah! He was killed wrongfully, and may Allah Almighty curse whoever killed him. May Allah Almighty exact retribution for him from the son of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), may Allah Almighty bring humiliation upon A'yan bin Taym in his own house, may Allah Almighty shed the blood of Banu Budayl on account of their misguidance, and may Allah Almighty send one of His arrows towards al-Ashtar.' (The narrator says:) By Allah! Every single one of those people was struck by the consequence of Sayyidah Aishah's (may Allah be pleased with her) supplication against them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Talq, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
