Sahm bin Hubaysh, who was among those who witnessed the killing of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), states: When evening came, I said: "If you leave your man until morning, they will mutilate him." Then they took him towards Baqi' al-Gharqad; we were able to take him in the depth of the night. We lifted him, and a large dark mass of people came upon us from behind; we became afraid of them, so much so that we almost scattered and left Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Then a caller called out: "Do not be alarmed; stand firm, for we have come to attend him along with you." Ibn Hubaysh used to say: "By Allah! They were the angels."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abdul Wahhab bin al-Dahhak, who is matruk (abandoned).
