Al-Hasan states: I lived in the time of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him); in those days I was close to puberty. I heard him delivering a sermon, saying - I was present there - he was saying: "O people! What objection do you have against me?" He said: Every day they would distribute much good (that is, they would distribute wealth). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) would say: "O people, come to me in the morning; I will give you your stipends." They would come and receive those stipends in abundance. Then it would be said: "O people, come to me in the morning; I will provide you with clothing." Then robes would be brought and distributed among them. Al-Hasan says: Enmity had ended, stipends were flowing, relations among people were good, and good was abundant. There was no believer on the face of the earth who feared another believer; whoever met anyone among the living, that person was his brother, loved him and helped him; and as for trial, it was such that if a sword were drawn against him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
