Muhammad bin Sirin states: In Kufah there was a man who used to testify that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) had been killed as a martyr. The guards seized him and brought him to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). The people said: "Had you not forbidden us (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are) had we not been forbidden from killing anyone, we would have killed this man. He claims: 'I testify that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was killed as a martyr.'" Then a man said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "You too testify that he was a martyr! Do you remember that I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for something, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave it to me? Then I came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him, and he too gave to me. Then I came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him, and he too gave to me. Then I came to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him, and he too gave to me. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Supplicate to Allah Almighty that He grant me blessing.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'How could you not be granted blessing when a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs have given to you? A Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs have given to you; a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs have given to you.'"
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
