بَابٌ فِيمَا كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ ، وَوَفَاتِهِ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ . 14536 عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَوَالَةَ قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي ظِلِّ دَوْمَةٍ وَعِنْدَهُ كَاتِبٌ يُمْلِي عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا أَكْتُبُكَ يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللَّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي ، وَقَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ مَرَّةً : فَأَكَبَّ يُمْلِي عَلَيْهِ - ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَنَكْتُبُكَ يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللَّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي ، وَأَكَبَّ عَلَى كَاتِبِهِ يُمْلِي عَلَيْهِ . قَالَ : فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا فِي الْكِتَابِ عُمَرُ ، فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ لَا يُكْتَبُ إِلَّا فِي خَيْرٍ . ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَنَكْتُبُكَ يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ قَالَ : " يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ، كَيْفَ نَفْعَلُ فِي فِتَنٍ تَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَطْرَافِ الْأَرْضِ كَأَنَّهَا صَيَاصِيِّ بَقَرٍ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللَّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ ، [ قَالَ : وَكَيْفَ تَفْعَلُ فِي أُخْرَى تَخْرُجُ بَعْدَهَا كَأَنَّ الْأُولَى فِيهَا انْتِفَاخَةُ أَرْنَبٍ ؟ قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللُّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ ] . قَالَ : " اتَّبِعُوا هَذَا " . وَرَجُلٌ مُقَفٍّ حِينَئِذٍ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَسَعَيْتُ فَأَخَذْتُ بِمَنْكِبِهِ ، فَأَقْبَلْتُ بِوَجْهِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قُلْتُ : هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " . فَإِذَا هُوَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ .

وَعَنْ حَفْصَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ قَاعِدَةً وَعَائِشَةُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " وَدِدْتُ أَنَّ مَعِي بَعْضَ أَصْحَابِي نَتَحَدَّثُ " . فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : أُرْسِلُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ يَتَحَدَّثُ مَعَكَ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا " . قَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ : أُرْسِلُ إِلَى عُمَرَ يَتَحَدَّثُ مَعَكَ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا ، وَلَكِنْ أُرْسِلُ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ " .
فَجَاءَ عُثْمَانُ فَدَخَلَ ، فَقَامَتَا فَأَرْخَتَا السِّتْرَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لِعُثْمَانَ : " إِنَّكَ مَقْتُولٌ مُسْتَشْهَدٌ ، فَاصْبِرْ صَبَّرَكَ اللَّهُ ، وَلَا تَخْلَعَنَّ قَمِيصًا قَمَّصَكَهُ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً وَسِتَّةَ أَشْهُرٍ حَتَّى تَلْقَى اللَّهَ ، وَهُوَ عَنْكَ رَاضٍ " . قَالَ عُثْمَانُ : إِنْ دَعَا النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لِي بِالصَّبْرِ ، فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ صَبِّرْهُ " . فَخَرَجَ عُثْمَانُ ، فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " صَبَّرَكَ اللَّهُ ; فَإِنَّكَ سَوْفَ تُسْتَشْهَدُ وَتَمُوتُ وَأَنْتَ صَائِمٌ ، وَتُفْطِرُ مَعِي " .
فَجَاءَ عُثْمَانُ فَدَخَلَ ، فَقَامَتَا فَأَرْخَتَا السِّتْرَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لِعُثْمَانَ : " إِنَّكَ مَقْتُولٌ مُسْتَشْهَدٌ ، فَاصْبِرْ صَبَّرَكَ اللَّهُ ، وَلَا تَخْلَعَنَّ قَمِيصًا قَمَّصَكَهُ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً وَسِتَّةَ أَشْهُرٍ حَتَّى تَلْقَى اللَّهَ ، وَهُوَ عَنْكَ رَاضٍ " . قَالَ عُثْمَانُ : إِنْ دَعَا النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لِي بِالصَّبْرِ ، فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ صَبِّرْهُ " . فَخَرَجَ عُثْمَانُ ، فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " صَبَّرَكَ اللَّهُ ; فَإِنَّكَ سَوْفَ تُسْتَشْهَدُ وَتَمُوتُ وَأَنْتَ صَائِمٌ ، وَتُفْطِرُ مَعِي " .
It is reported about Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Once she and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I wish that one of my Companions were with me, so that we could talk." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Shall I send for Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so that he may talk with you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Shall I send for Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), so that he may talk with you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather I will send for Uthman." Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and as he was coming in, the two women rose and let down the curtain. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): "You will be killed and you will be martyred, so be patient - may Allah Almighty grant you patience - and do not take off the shirt that Allah Almighty has clothed you with; that shirt will remain on you for twelve years and six months, until you appear before Allah Almighty, and Allah Almighty will be pleased with you." Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It would be fitting if the Prophet of Allah were to supplicate for patience for me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Grant him patience." Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) went out and left, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying: "May Allah Almighty grant you patience; you will drink the cup of martyrdom, and you will die in a state in which you are fasting, and you will break your fast with me."
