بَابٌ فِيمَا كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ ، وَوَفَاتِهِ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ . 14536 عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَوَالَةَ قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي ظِلِّ دَوْمَةٍ وَعِنْدَهُ كَاتِبٌ يُمْلِي عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا أَكْتُبُكَ يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللَّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي ، وَقَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ مَرَّةً : فَأَكَبَّ يُمْلِي عَلَيْهِ - ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَنَكْتُبُكَ يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللَّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي ، وَأَكَبَّ عَلَى كَاتِبِهِ يُمْلِي عَلَيْهِ . قَالَ : فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا فِي الْكِتَابِ عُمَرُ ، فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ لَا يُكْتَبُ إِلَّا فِي خَيْرٍ . ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَنَكْتُبُكَ يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ قَالَ : " يَا ابْنَ حَوَالَةَ ، كَيْفَ نَفْعَلُ فِي فِتَنٍ تَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَطْرَافِ الْأَرْضِ كَأَنَّهَا صَيَاصِيِّ بَقَرٍ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللَّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ ، [ قَالَ : وَكَيْفَ تَفْعَلُ فِي أُخْرَى تَخْرُجُ بَعْدَهَا كَأَنَّ الْأُولَى فِيهَا انْتِفَاخَةُ أَرْنَبٍ ؟ قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، مَا خَارَ اللُّهُ لِي وَرَسُولُهُ ] . قَالَ : " اتَّبِعُوا هَذَا " . وَرَجُلٌ مُقَفٍّ حِينَئِذٍ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَسَعَيْتُ فَأَخَذْتُ بِمَنْكِبِهِ ، فَأَقْبَلْتُ بِوَجْهِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قُلْتُ : هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " . فَإِذَا هُوَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ .

وَعَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ قَالَ : بَيْنَا نَحْنُ مُعَسْكِرِينَ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بَعْدَ قَتْلِ عُثْمَانَ ، فَقَامَ مُرَّةُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الْبَهْزِيُّ فَقَالَ : أَنَا وَاللَّهِ لَوْلَا شَيْءٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَا قُمْتُ هَذَا الْمَقَامَ . فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةُ ذِكْرَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَجْلَسَ النَّاسَ قَالَ : بَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - جُلُوسٌ إِذْ مَرَّ بِنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ مُتَرَجِّلًا مُعْدِقًا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَتَخْرُجَنَّ فِتْنَةٌ مِنْ تَحْتِ رِجْلَيْ - أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ قَدَمَيْ - هَذَا ، وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الْهُدَى " . فَقُمْتُ حَتَّى أَخَذْتُ بِمَنْكِبَيْ عُثْمَانَ حَتَّى بَيَّنْتُهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقُلْتُ : هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ هَذَا ، وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الْهُدَى " .
فَقَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَوَالَةَ الْأَزْدِيُّ مِنْ عِنْدِ الْمِنْبَرِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّكَ لَصَاحِبُ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ قَالَ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي حَاضِرٌ ذَلِكَ الْمَجْلِسَ ، وَلَوْ كُنْتُ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ لِي فِي الْجَيْشِ مُصَدِّقًا لَكُنْتُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ .
قُلْتُ : حَدِيثُ مُرَّةَ رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ وُثِّقُوا .
فَقَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَوَالَةَ الْأَزْدِيُّ مِنْ عِنْدِ الْمِنْبَرِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّكَ لَصَاحِبُ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ قَالَ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي حَاضِرٌ ذَلِكَ الْمَجْلِسَ ، وَلَوْ كُنْتُ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ لِي فِي الْجَيْشِ مُصَدِّقًا لَكُنْتُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ .
قُلْتُ : حَدِيثُ مُرَّةَ رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ .

Jubayr bin Nufayr states: Once we were encamped with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him); this was after the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Murrah bin Ka'b al-Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: "By Allah! Had I not heard something from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I would not have stood up in this place." When Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) heard that he was mentioning the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he made the people sit down. Then Sayyiduna Murrah bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: Once we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by us; he had combed his hair and gathered it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A trial will soon emerge from beneath the feet (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are) from beneath the two feet of this man, and at that time this man and those who follow him will be upon guidance." The narrator says: I rose, took hold of both shoulders of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), turned him towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: "This man?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! This man, and whoever follows him, will be upon guidance at that time." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hawalah al-Azdi (may Allah be pleased with him), who was near the pulpit, stood up and said: "You are the narrator of this?" He replied: "Yes." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hawalah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah! I too was present at that gathering. Had I known that there was someone in this army who would confirm my word, I would have been the first to speak about it." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Murrah bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) was also recorded by al-Tirmidhi.
