Abu al-Malih narrates the following statement from his father: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke with the owner of the land that was needed to extend the Prophet's Mosque; the owner of that land was a man from the Ansar. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In exchange for it you will get a house in Paradise." He said: "No." Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said to him: "You will be given ten thousand dirhams in exchange for this land." So Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) bought that land from the man. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Buy that plot from me; I have bought it from the Ansari." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought that plot from Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) in exchange for a house in Paradise. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I bought it for ten thousand dirhams." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laid a brick, then he called Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he laid a brick; then he called Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he laid a brick; then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came and laid a brick. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people: "Now you lay (bricks)!" So the people also laid bricks.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ziyad bin Abi al-Malih, who is da'if (weak).
