Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman! When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, where would he be? Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: In Paradise. He asked: When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, where would he be? Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: He was a compassionate (or tender-hearted) man who was present at every good that was sought (that is, that people strove to do). He said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has passed away; where would he be? Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the righteous are mentioned, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) will be mentioned in particular.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
