عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - قَالَ : إِنَّ عُمَرَ كَانَ أَعْلَمَنَا بِاللَّهِ ، وَأَقْرَأَنَا لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ ، وَأَفْقَهَنَا فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ فِي وَفَاةِ عُمَرَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) had the most knowledge of Allah Almighty among us, recited the Book of Allah Almighty the most, and had the deepest understanding of the religion of Allah.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it within a long hadith concerning the death of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
