Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Until he met Allah Almighty, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) never sat on the step of the pulpit where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sit; until he met Allah Almighty, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) never sat on the step on which Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to sit; and until he met Allah Almighty, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) never sat in the place where Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to sit.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), though there is disagreement about some of them.
