Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out in search of a man from the Ansar and called him. The Ansari came out with water dripping from his head. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with your head?" He said: "You called me while I was with my wife, and I feared that I would keep you waiting, so I hurried: I got up, poured water over myself, and then came out." He said: "Had you ejaculated?" He said: "No." He said: "When you do that, do not take a ritual bath (ghusl); wash whatever of you touched the woman, and perform your ablution as for prayer, for water (the bath) is only required because of water (ejaculation)."
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it by way of Zayd bin Sa'd from Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf from his father; Abu Salamah did not hear from his father, and as for Zayd, I have not found anyone who has written a biography of him.
