Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 14257

Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill, he said: "Bring me a sheet and an inkpot, so that I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray after me." The narrator says: This weighed very heavily upon us. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring me a sheet, so that I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray." The women said from behind the curtain: "Do these people not hear what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is saying?" I said: "You are like the women of the time of Sayyiduna Yusuf (peace be upon him): when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill, you squeezed out tears from your eyes, and now when he is recovering, you ride on his neck." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave them alone, for they are better than you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Ja'far bin Ibrahim al-Ja'fari, about whom al-Uqayli says: There is room for consideration in his narrations. The remaining narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy, though there is disagreement about some of them.
