Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was a household of the Ansar who had a camel on which they used to carry water. They had difficulty controlling that camel, and the camel refused to let anything be loaded on its back. The Ansar came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "We had a camel on which we used to carry water; now it has become difficult for us to control it, and it does not let us use its back, while the situation is that the crops and the date palms are thirsty (that is, they need to be watered)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "Get up." They stood up. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came into that garden, and the camel was in one corner of the garden. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began walking towards it. The Ansar said: "O Messenger of Allah! It has become like a dog; we fear that it will harm you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No harm will come to me from it." When the camel saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it came walking towards him and fell down in prostration before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of its forelock, and it had become more submissive than it had ever been before. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put it back to its work. His Companions said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! This animal, which has no intellect, is prostrating to you; we have intellect, so we have more right to prostrate to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not proper for any human being to prostrate to another human being. If it were proper for a human being to prostrate to a human being, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate to her husband, because the husband's right over her is greater; so much so that if, from the parting of his hair to his feet, there were boils from which pus and blood-mixed discharge were flowing, and then the woman came to her husband and licked it, even then she could not fulfil that husband's right."
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for the narrator named Hafs, who is the nephew of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
