Sayyiduna al-Wazi' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and with me was al-Ashajj, al-Mundhir bin Asim (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) Amir bin al-Mundhir. With them was a person who was afflicted with madness. They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When those people saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they leapt down from their mounts and kissed the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then al-Ashajj dismounted; he tied up the people's mounts, took out his bag and opened it, (and, having changed his clothes,) he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him with salam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ashajj! There are two qualities in you which Allah Almighty and His Messenger love: hilm (forbearance) and anah (deliberateness, not being hasty)." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Have I adopted them myself, or has Allah Almighty placed them in my nature?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, Allah Almighty has placed them in your nature." He said: "All praise belongs to Allah Almighty, who has placed in my nature two traits which Allah and His Messenger love." Sayyiduna al-Wazi' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! With us is a relative who is possessed by a jinn, so supplicate to Allah Almighty for him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is he? Bring him to me!" The narrator says: I treated that man the same way that Sayyiduna al-Ashajj (may Allah be pleased with him) had done: I dressed him in fine clothes, then I brought him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of his cloak and raised it, until I could see the whiteness of his (peace and blessings be upon him) armpit. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck his back and said: "Get out, O enemy of Allah!" So he turned his face away and left, and then that man began to see properly.
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a woman, Hind bint al-Wazi', and I do not know her. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
