Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were taking part in a military expedition with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we said: "O Messenger of Allah! The enemy has drawn near; they will be well-fed while we will be hungry." The Ansar said: "Should we not slaughter our camels? That way we will feed the people." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has extra food, let him bring it." So one man brought a mudd, another brought a sa', and another brought more or less than that. All that was in the army came, altogether, to a little more than twenty sa'. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat beside it and prayed for blessing, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Start taking, but do not snatch!" One man would fill his bag, another would fill his sack, and they put the provisions into their vessels, until one man even tied the sleeve of his shirt and filled it. When those people had finished taking it, the food was just as it had been before. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah Almighty, and that I am the Messenger of Allah. Any servant who comes with this word while truly believing in it, Allah Almighty will protect him from the heat of Hell."
Abu Ya'la recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Asim bin Ubaydullah al-Umari, whom al-Ijli declared thiqah (trustworthy) and a group declared da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Before this, in the Book of Faith, in the first chapter, the hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Amrah (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed.
