وَعَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ فَإِذَا مُنَادٍ يُنَادِيهِ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَالْتَفَتَ فَلَمْ يَرَ أَحَدًا ، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ فَإِذَا ظَبْيَةٌ مَوْثُوقَةٌ فَقَالَتْ : ادْنُ مِنِّي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَدَنَا مِنْهَا فَقَالَ : " حَاجَتُكِ ؟ " . فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ لِي خَشْفَيْنِ فِي هَذَا الْجَبَلِ ، فَخَلِّنِي حَتَّى أَذْهَبَ فَأُرْضِعُهُمَا ثُمَّ أَرْجِعُ إِلَيْكَ . قَالَ : " وَتَفْعَلِينَ ؟ " . قَالَتْ : عَذَّبَنِي اللَّهُ عَذَابَ الْعَشَّارِ إِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ . فَأَطْلَقَهَا ، فَذَهَبَتْ فَأَرْضَعَتْ خَشْفَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ فَأَوْثَقَهَا ، وَانْتَبَهَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ فَقَالَ : أَلَكَ حَاجَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ تُطْلِقُ هَذِهِ " . فَأَطْلَقَهَا فَخَرَجَتْ تَعْدُو وَهِيَ تَقُولُ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ أَغْلَبُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the desert when someone called out to him: "O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned around but did not see anyone. Then he turned again, and there was a doe tied up. She said: "O Messenger of Allah! Come near me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went near her and asked: "What do you need?" She said: "I have two young ones in this mountain. Set me free so that I may go and suckle them, then I will come back to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Will you do so?" She said: "May Allah Almighty punish me with the punishment of an extortionate toll-collector if I do not." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) untied her; she went away, suckled her young, then came back, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tied her up again. Meanwhile the bedouin came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Do you need anything?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! Release her!" The bedouin released her, and she went off saying: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah Almighty and that you are the Messenger of Allah."
