وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي مِرْدَاسٍ السُّلَمِيِّ قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَدَعَا بِطَهُورٍ فَغَمَسَ يَدَهُ فَتَوَضَّأَ ، فَتَتَبَّعْنَاهُ فَحَسَوْنَاهُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ ؟ " . قُلْنَا : حُبُّ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ قَالَ : " فَإِنْ أَحْبَبْتُمْ أَنْ يُحِبَّكُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَأَدُّوا إِذَا ائْتُمِنْتُمْ ، وَاصْدُقُوا إِذَا حُدِّثْتُمْ ، وَأَحْسِنُوا جِوَارَ مَنْ جَاوَرَكُمْ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عُبَيْدُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ الْقَيْسِيُّ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith bin Abi Mirdas al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water for ablution, dipped his blessed hand into it and performed ablution with it. We went after that water and kept taking it and drinking it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you do what you have done?" We said: "Out of love for Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you would like Allah and His Messenger to love you too, then return the trust when you are entrusted, speak the truth when you speak, and treat well whoever lives in your neighbourhood."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ubayd bin Waqid al-Qaysi, who is da'if (weak).
