Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1400

Sayyiduna Khuzaymah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "For the traveller the period is three days and three nights, and for the resident one day and one night; he may keep wiping over his leather socks, provided that he put his feet into them while both were in a state of ablution." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say:
Abu Dawud recorded it, but he did not record these words: "when he put them in while in a state of ablution."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Ibn Abi Layla Muhammad, who has a poor memory.
