Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Once Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a writing that he had obtained from someone among the People of the Book. He read it out to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn al-Khattab, are you people becoming absorbed in it? By the One in whose Hand is my soul, I have brought it to you clear and pure. Whatever you ask them (the People of the Book) about, they will tell you, and it may be the truth which you then deny, or it may be falsehood which you then affirm. By the One in whose Hand is my soul, if Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) were alive, even he would have had no option but to follow me."
Imam Ahmad recorded it.
