Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Allah Almighty sent His Prophet so that he might bring a man into Paradise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered their place of worship; there were Jews there, and a Jewish man was reading the Torah to them. When they reached the place describing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they stopped reading it. In a corner of that place of worship there was a sick man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What happened? Why have you stopped?" The sick man said: "These people have now reached the place describing a prophet, so they have stopped." Then that (sick) Jewish man came; he bent on his knees, took the Torah and read it, until he read the description of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the description of his Ummah, and said: "This description is yours and that of your Ummah, so I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah." Then that man passed away, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take care of your brother (that is, arrange for his shrouding and burial)."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it; the chain of this narration contains a narrator, Ata bin al-Sa'ib, and he had suffered confusion (ikhtilat).
