وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ حِينَ خَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ بَعَثَ جِبْرِيلَ فَقَسَّمَ النَّاسَ قِسْمَيْنِ ، فَقَسَّمَ الْعَرَبَ قِسْمًا وَقَسَّمَ الْعَجَمَ قِسْمًا ، وَكَانَتْ خِيَرَةُ اللَّهِ فِي الْعَرَبِ ، ثُمَّ قَسَّمَ الْعَرَبَ قِسْمَيْنِ ، فَقَسَّمَ الْيَمَنَ قِسْمًا وَقَسَّمَ مُضَرَ قِسْمًا وَقُرَيْشًا قِسْمًا ، وَكَانَتْ خِيَرَةُ اللَّهِ فِي قُرَيْشٍ ، ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِ مَنْ أَنَا مِنْهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty created the creation, He sent Jibril, and he divided the people into two parts. He made the Arabs one part and the non-Arabs one part, and the choice (or selection) bestowed by Allah Almighty is among the Arabs. Then He divided the Arabs into two parts: He made Yemen one part and Mudar one part, and Quraysh one part, and the choice bestowed by Allah Almighty is in Quraysh. Then He brought me forth from the best (family) of those to whom I belong."
