Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Which of the people is most beloved to Allah Almighty? And which of the deeds is most beloved to Allah Almighty?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most beloved of people to Allah Almighty is the one who is most beneficial to people. The most beloved of deeds to Allah Almighty is the joy that you bring to a Muslim, or that you remove some hardship from him, or pay off his debt, or drive away his hunger. That I walk with a brother of mine for some need of his is more beloved to me than that I perform i'tikaf in this mosque, that is, the Prophet's Mosque, for a month. Whoever restrains his anger, Allah Almighty will conceal his hidden faults. Whoever swallows his anger when, if he wished, he could act on it, Allah Almighty will fill his heart with ease on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever walks with his brother for some need of his until he gets it done for him, Allah Almighty will make his feet firm on the day when people's feet will slip."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in all three of his books; its chain contains a narrator, Sukayn bin Siraj, who is da'if (weak).
