Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained about his neighbour. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Put your belongings out on the road." The man put his belongings out, and people would pass by and curse him (his neighbour). That man (his neighbour) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! What am I facing from the people? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What are you facing from them?" He said: They curse me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty cursed you before the people did." He (the neighbour) said: I will not do it again. Then the man who had complained about him came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pick up your belongings, for you have been spared (his harm)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded something similar, except that in it the words are: "Put your belongings on the road", that is, out on the open road. The man put them there, and everyone who passed by would ask: What is the matter with you? He would reply: My neighbour harms me. Then the passer-by would pray against that neighbour. His neighbour came and said: Take your belongings back! I will never harm you. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Umar al-Munabbihi, from whom only Sharik narrates; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
