Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13566

Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have settled in the quarter of Banu so-and-so, and among them the one who causes me the most harm is the one who is my closest neighbour. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to go to the mosque (of that quarter), stand at its door and announce: "Beware! Neighbourliness extends to forty houses, and he will not enter Paradise whose neighbour fears his bawa'iq (i.e., his evil)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Yusuf bin al-Safar, and he is matruk (abandoned).
