Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13503

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A father does not give his child any gift more excellent than good upbringing."
Imam Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin Dinar, who was the steward of the family of al-Zubayr, and he was matruk (abandoned). Hadiths about the upbringing of children have already passed earlier in the Book of Manners (Kitab al-Adab).
