Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the Children of Israel there was a man named Jurayj who used to worship in his hermitage. One day his mother came to him and called out to him loudly, saying: 'O Jurayj! O my son! Look down at me so that I may talk with you; I am your mother. Look down at me!' Jurayj thought: 'O my Lord! On one side is my mother and on the other side is my prayer.' Then he remained turned towards his prayer. His mother called him again many times; the woman kept saying: 'O Jurayj! O my son! Look down at me!' And he kept thinking: 'O my Lord! On one side is my mother and on the other side is my prayer,' and he remained turned towards his prayer. So his mother said: 'O Allah! Do not give him death until You show him the face of a prostitute.' There was a woman there who grazed goats; she grazed the goats of her masters and then would come to the shade of his hermitage. She committed a sin and became pregnant, and then she was caught. Whoever among them committed fornication would be killed. The people asked: 'Whose child is this?' The woman replied: 'It is from Jurayj, the man of the hermitage.' So the people brought their axes and the like and said: 'O Jurayj! O you show-off!' Then they said: 'Come down!' But Jurayj did not come down; he remained turned towards his prayer and kept praying. The people began to demolish his hermitage. When he saw this, he came down. The people put a rope around his neck and around the woman's neck and paraded them both among the people. Then Jurayj placed his finger on the woman's belly and said: 'O so-and-so! Who is your father?' He replied: 'My father is so-and-so, the shepherd of sheep.' So the people began to kiss Jurayj and said: 'If you wish, we will build your hermitage of gold and silver.' He said: 'Rebuild it of clay, as it was before.'" (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This report is in the Sahih, without this wording.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
