وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " يَا مُعَاذُ إِنِّي مُرْسِلُكَ إِلَى قَوْمٍ أَهْلِ كِتَابٍ ، فَإِذَا سُئِلْتَ عَنِ الْمَجَرَّةِ الَّتِي فِي السَّمَاءِ ، فَقُلْ : هِيَ لُعَابُ حَيَّةٍ تَحْتَ الْعَرْشِ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Mu'adh! I am about to send you to a people who are People of the Book. When you are asked about the Milky Way that is in the sky, then say: It is the saliva of a serpent beneath the Throne."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Fadl bin al-Mukhtar, who is da'if (weak).
