Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked; it was submitted: What do you say, upon what does the earth rest? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The earth rests upon water. It was submitted: Upon what does the water rest? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It rests upon a rock. It was submitted: Upon what does the rock rest? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It rests upon the back of a fish whose two ends meet the Throne. It was submitted: Upon what does that fish rest? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It rests upon the shoulder of an angel whose two feet are in the air.
Al-Bazzar recorded it from his teacher Abdullah bin Ahmad, that is, Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Shabib, and he is da'if (weak).
