Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with her), and she presented him with meat on the bone and placed it before him. Then she presented more and placed it before him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate it. Then the mu'adhdhin came and said: Please perform ablution, please perform ablution! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ablution is required of us because of what comes out (from inside the body); it is not required because of what goes in (to the body from outside).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain states that Ubaydullah bin Zahr narrated it from Ali bin Yazid. Both of these narrators are da'if (weak), and it is not permissible to use them as evidence.
