Imam Muhammad bin Ali bin Husayn narrates: Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) set out to go to his land on the outer side of al-Harrah. The narrator says: We were walking along when we met Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him), who was riding a mule. He got down from the mule, brought it close to Imam Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Abu Abdullah, ride it." Imam Husayn disliked this, and this went back and forth until Sayyiduna al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) adjured Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) by oath. Then Imam Husayn agreed to ride and said: "By making me swear, you have bound me to something I dislike. Now you ride on the front of the animal and I will sit behind you, because I heard Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), relate that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'A man has more right to the front of his animal, the best part of his bedding, and (leading) the prayer in his own house, except when he is an imam around whom people gather.'" Sayyiduna al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The daughter of the Messenger of Allah has spoken the truth. I heard my father, Sayyiduna Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him), relate the same thing that Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) related, except that my father (narrated these words): the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Except with permission.'" Then Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) rode.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains al-Hakam bin Abdullah al-Ayli, and he is matruk (abandoned).
