Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13174

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you is to write a letter to someone, let him mention himself first; and when he has written it, let him put dust on his writing, for this way it will be more successful (that is, its ink will not smudge)."
This narration was recorded by Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Sulayman bin Salamah al-Khaba'iri, who is matruk (abandoned).
