Majma al-Zawaid 13116 — Judge people by their companions
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - قَالَ : " اعْتَبَرُوا النَّاسُ بِإِخْوَانِهِمْ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرِ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ مَعِينٍ وَغَيْرُهُ وَفِيهِ ضَعْفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Judge people by their brothers (that is, their friends)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Muhammad bin Kathir bin Ata', whom Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), and in whom there is weakness.
